Master Ribot dies

NZPA London The New Zealand-bred steeplechaser, Master Ribot, dropped dead centimetres from the finishing post in a National Hunt race at the week-end.

The nine-year-old Ri-botlight-Sun Deck gelding, one of a big string of New Zealand jumpers trained by top hunt trainer, Derek Kent, was 8-13 favourite for the Doncaster . Handicap ’Chase at Market Rasen during the holiday week-end.

The specialist racing daily, “Sporting Life,” said the New Zealand gelding was well-beaten when he collapsed, having weakened in the closing stages after having every chance. The Market Rasen ’Chase was the second race of the new hunt season for Master Ribot which had campaigned in Britain with mixed success over the last four seasons. In his only other race this season, on August 18, he was placed second in the Edward . Elgar Handicap ’Chase at Worcester.
