Joe Bugner wins in six
NZPA-Reuter Los Angeles The former British heavyweight boxing champion. Joe Bugner, began a comeback attempt yesterday by stopping Gilberto Acuna, of Costa Rica, in Six rounds.
Acuna, his nose bloodied and his eyes puffed’ to mere slits, failed to come out for the seventh of the scheduled 10-round fight and an official of the Californian Boxing Commission said that the fight would go in the record
books as a sixth round knockout for Bugner. Bugner, aged 30. who was having his first fight for three years, said his timing was off but he was satisfied with his performance.
Under a barrage of left jabs and hooks from Bugner, Acuna ; was little more than a punching , bag, soaking up punishment ■ without a telling punch of his . own. Bugner had blood pouring ■from Acuna’s nose in the firs l round and said that from then lon he knew he was going to I win. ’
