Sharp soccer denial
A newspaper report stating that Trans Tour United supports changes to the Rothmans Soccer League format has drawn a sharp response from United’s acting chairman, Mr Paul Pasco. The story, which appeared in a Sunday paper yesterday, states that United, Newmans Nelson United and Manurewa all support moves by Hamilton to have the league split into regional contests to find the top teams to play off later in the season for the top placings. But Mr Pasco stressed
United was opposed to any such alterations to the competition. “I do not know where they got their information from,” said Mr Pasco. “We do not support that view at all. We believe any change in the format would be a backward step for soccer.’* Mr John Ross, the Hamilton secretary who was quoted in the article, had not seen it but suspected his remarks were taken out of context. He said his club had had no correspondence on the matter in recent months with United.
