Opening for contracts
Canterbury manufacturers might soon be involved in sub-contracting for the Australian defence industry. Mr A. W. Tyler (supply manager) , and Mr G. Gaywood (quality control engineer) of the Australian Government Aircraft Factories are in Christchurch as paiv of a tour looking for possible 'defence supply subcontracts.
The technical adviser to the Australian-New Zealand working group for defence
supply co-operation (Mr D. G. McCulloch) thinks New . Zealand has the potential for . further Australian .sub-con-tracting. To date, New. Zealand has worked out sub-contracts to the value of about $1.03 mil-j lion for the G.A:F. Nomads twin-engine aircraft. Safe Air, Ltd, of Blenheim, has been New Zealand’s main participant in the Australian Nomad project, producingairframe parts valued about $665,000. .'
