Pensioners’ complex
Nine tenders, ranging from $950,000 to more than $1 million, have been received for a “residential club” complex for pensioners, behind the Fairhaven Hospital in Hare-1 wood Road.
The Rev. W. E. Faulking-| ham, of the Methodist Central Mission, said no decision had been made on the
tenders yet. The tenders* would be sent to the Government, which approved in; principle a $1 million subsidy for the project in 1972;' for final approval. |
The 50 pensioner units, designed by the architect firm of Mr W. Taurau Royal, are planned in single and two-storey blocks built of concrete and timber. Mr Royal said it would be the type of community
where elderly people could look after each other. It was designed to help keep people active.
Mr Faulkingham said it was a sheltered'housing con-' ; cept for people to live together with community fac--1 ilities, which was new for iNew Zealand.
