Brisbane Games TV set

NZPA Sydney The Australian Broadcasting Commission has paid $l6 million for the broadcasting and television rights of the Commonwealth Games in Brisbane in 1982.

The general manager of the A.B.C. (Sir Talbot Duckmanton) and the directors of the Commonwealth Games Foundation, Colin Nichols and Liam Walsh, have signed the agreement in Sydney. It is believed that the undertaking by the A.B.C. is the biggest radio and television broadcasting operation planned for staging in Australia. ■ The three men in a joint statement said the world television audience for the opening ceremony of the games on September 30, 1982, was expected to be between 500 million and 1000 million. Mr Nichols said the A.B.C. would organise and provide radio and television facilities for Australia and international broadcasters who covered the events.

Sir Talbot said the coverage of the games would involve the provision at the various venues of 10 radio studios, seven television studios, more than 50 carjperas and videotape recorders, and 160 commentator units.
