Area training committees

The establishment of area training committees was approved at the recent annual general meeting of the Canterbury Regional Training Committee. These committees will

have as their primary responsibility the development and implementation of training programmes that best suit their own areas. In his report to the meeting the chairman. Mr I. R. Kingsbury, recalled

that in June last year it had been decided to split up into separate committees within the region. This was so that responsibility for developing training programmes rested with local areas. One of

these committees was south of the Rakaia river and the other north of the river.

Referring to the restructuring proposals, he said that basically the change was to put some responsibility for training pro-

grammes on areas where there was a general community of interest. He said that he believed that North Canterbury' could be further divided into possibly as many as two or three areas.

The training officer, Mr Maurice Webb, said this week that they were looking at the establishment of

separate groups covering such areas as Cheviot-Par-nassus, Hawarden and the central Canterbury
