Strong surge in shares
The New Zealand sharemarket rallied with a vengeance yesterday, after the bullish trend seemed to have die dearlier in the week. The N.Z.U.C. index rose 4.44 points to 454.88, but again a shortage of scrip among the market leaders may have been a contributing factor. Gains of 10c and more were made by Arthur Yates, Challenge, New Zealand Insurance, and Tasman, and among second-line shares, Christchurch Gas, Dingwall and Paulger, and Revertex. Allflex continued to ease on the impending inquiry into export incentives in Washington. The best gain was by Walker and Hall—lloc to 500 c.
