Pilot, passenger hijacked twice
NZPA-Reuter Havana Seven hijackers surrendered to the Cuban authorities yesterday after commandeering a United States airliner in Florida by pouring petrol on the seats and threatening to light it with matches. It was the second time in four days that an Air Florida Boeing 737 had been hijacked to Havana while flying between Miami and Key West.,.,-- . . , Officials said the same copilot was at the controls both times and ope passenger was hijacked twice —
on the way to Key West on Sunday and on the way back to Miami yesterday. Yesterday’s flight carried 60 passengers and a crew of six.
Sunday’s flight, diverted to Cuba by a man who threatened the pilot with a cake of soap disguised as a bomb, had 27 passengers and a crew of five.
Both times the hijackers spoke only Spanish but their identities and nationalities have not been disclosed.
Cuban authorities searched the airliner yesterday at Washington’s request before it returned to Miami.
