Prem retires
The Thai Army has confirmed that the Thai Prime Minister (General Prem Tinsulanonda) had signed his own retirement as Army commander-in-chief in a move seen as a test of his grip on power. The move quelled speculation that General Prem might extend his tenure in order to head off possible in-fighting over his successor and was seen as a demonstration of the Thai leader’s confidence in his pull over top military brass. — BangkokJ
