Lighthouse ban lifted
PA Wellington A decision by the Public Service Association to lift its ban oh weather reporting has been welcomed by the Minister of State Services (Mr Thomson) and the Minister of Transport (Mr McLachlan).-
The association has also decided not to impose its threatened ban on the working of manned lighthouses.
The curtailment of weather reporting, and possibility of further industrial action, resulted from dirsatisfaction among lighthouse-keepers at the Government’s plans to automate all lighthouses. . The two Ministers have agreed to hold further discussions on the Government plans, provided the industrial action ceased.
They are expected to meet P.S.A. representatives early next week.
