Won this distance at Te Awamutu the start before. Very consistent last season and top chance. R. Lang 2 0088 KANGA'S LAD (10) 58.5. Has not raced since failing at Tauherenikau on April 5. Dead-heated fresh-up with Mun Lee over 1200 m at Hastings last September. Won two races meanwhile. Capable of upsetting on his day. N. Tiley 3 0434 MEED (8) 58.5. Fair fourth over 1400 m last start, August 5. at Riccarlon. Previous start was a good effort when second, later relegated to third behind London Trader and Belle Camille in Winter Cup. at Riccarton. Won two moderate sprints last season.

4 098$ PRINCE COOBER (2) 58.5. Well beaten at Matamata last Saturday, following a month break. Showed good form as two and three-year-old, but would need to improve on latest efforts. 5 4051 SHELTER'S GOLD (12) 58.5. Won decisively over 1400 m at Ruakaka, last start, July 25. Earlier last season he recorded two wins over 2000 m at Ellerslie and Ruakaka. Has above average ability, but prefers firm footing.

6 1047 SMART FELLA (11) 58.5. Failed once again at Ellerslie on Wednesday. Most recent win was at Trentham, on July 9, coasting in by five lengths. Would have to improve on efforts turned in since.

7 0903 SOVEREIGN STEP (3) 58.5. Has been disappointing but last start third behind Heidelberg and Hotsand at Ellerslie, on July 23, was encouraging run. Looked good early last season when win-

ning three out of four starts. Must be considered.

8 5173 UNCOMMON (13) 58.5. Has shown good form at times since transferring north. Battled well for third last start at Pukekohe. Won three sprints last season, latest was on the Avondale course, July 5. Must be respected.

9 1211 VALOUR (4) 58.5. In top form lately. Has won four of last five races. Last start win was his first at' tempt in open company al Matamata. August 9. Has to be good chance when in such form.

T. Autridge 10 2132 AFFAIR D'HONNEUR (5) 57. Last start 2nd was behind Shelter’s Gold at Ruakaka, over this distance. July 25. Has weighed in in all of h’s six starts since shifting north. His latest of three wins came on June 28, at Hastings. Has to be respected.

K. Reggett 11 2123 BOLD GETTY (9) 57. Finished a creditable fourth at Ellerslie on Wednesday. Won lower class sprint al Te Awamutu. July 26. Honest galloper, but may find this too rich at this stage. 12 0010 GLASGOW BOY (15) 57. Failed badly last start, Matamata, August 9. Previous start was a surprise winner

over 1200 m, at Pukekohe, August 2. Hard to follow. 13 1821 KAWHARU (6) 57. Shows a lot of promise. Last start win was over this distance, Pukekohe, August 2. May find this company too rich at this stage.

D. Peake 14 5828 OAKWELL (14) 56. Needed run when Bth at Ruakaka, July 25. Fine mare, successful In Australia two seasons ago. Finished a good second in w-f-a company at Wanganui, Sept. 8. last season. Should go well. 15 1211 SO BOLD (7) 49.5. Lightly raced two-year-old last season. Last start win was In Ryder Stakes, at Levin. July 16. Smart galloper which should give plenty of cheek. 16 3137 TRENDY (16) 49.5. Onlv battling 7th at Pukekohe last start, August 2. Game second to Tamaryn at Ellerslie on Wednesday. Won start before at Pukekohe, August 2, over 2030 m. Was in top form last season recording five wins. Won Founders Plate on this course, July 5.

Good chance despite big weight. G. Chitty 2 6665 VAN DER HUM (9) 55. Former Melbourne Cup winner is battling to recapture top form. Came home strongly for fifth at Matamata last start, August 9. Has to be considered. G. Grylls 3 0003 KAUERE LAD (8) 54.5. Came home strongly for third behind Merman at Pukekohe last start, August 3. Mudlark which looks like returning to top form, although now eleven years of age. T. Autridge 4 9453 RUBICON (6) 54.5. Battled on without a chance

of winning at Ellerslie on Wednesday. Unlikelv starter. 5 8180 ROSS HUNTER (2) 53. Failed to run on when eleventh at Matamata. August 9. Won three starts back in Parliamentary Handicap at Trentham, July 9. Capable of winning this when at peak. B. York 6 4000 SWIFT JUSTICE (1) 52.5. Has been very disappointing, finished tenth on both days at Hastings. 7 VULCAN LAD (4) 52.5. Showed a great deal of promise when racing in New Zealand in the 1978-79 season. Last season he did all his racing in Australia where he won three times at country meetings. May need this outing.
