Noon Forecast

General forecast: The anticyclone east of the North Island is expected to move eastwards during the' day, with fine weather continuing in the north and east; north-westerly winds are expected to become strong in exposed places over the southern half of the North Island. In the South Island, rain should persist about and west of the ranges, becoming _ heavier and more persistent in South Westland and Fiordland, and some scattered falls spreading into Southland and Otago during the day; northwestly winds to gale force in many inland areas. District forecasts: Canterbury: Mainly fine, but with increasing high i cloud, and rain about the i Southern Alps; north-west- • erlies up to gale force in 1 inland places tomorrow,

and strong and gusty elsewhere; mild.

Marlborough: North-westerly winds becoming strong and gusty tomorrow; cloud increasing about the Sounds but continuing fine and mild elsewhere.

Nelson: Mainly fine weather, but some rain tomorrow about the western ranges; cool, with westerly winds, fresh in exposed places.

Buller: Cloudy and cool, with occasional rain; fresh northerlies predominating. Westland: Fresh north-west-erlies; overcast, with occasional rain, becoming more persistent in the south tomorrow; cool,
