Trainers fined
PA Dunedin Stewart Sutherland, the Duntroon trainer, and David Allan, the Oamartt trainer, have been fined $lOO each by the Otago district committee of the New Zealand Racing Conference for breaches of the rules concerning the training of the horse Country Maid. Sutherland was charged with training the horse when he was not appropriately authorised under the rules of racing to do so, and Allan was charged with allowing the horse to start when he was not in fact the trainer.
The charges were laid by Mr D. Williams', the racecourse inspector. The committee found the charges proved but in imposing the penalty it took into account the reputation of both men and their high standing in both racing and /rotting. The committee were of the opinion that there was clearly a breach of the four week requirement in rule 145 (5). The committee was concerned at the definition or lack of definition of training within the rules and accordingly will request the executive committee to consider the matter with a view to having the subject more clearly defined.
