Game Adios impressive at Addington trials

By

G. K. YULE

The 1979 New Zealand Derby Stakes winner, Game Adios, advanced in favour for the Ribbonwood Handicap on Saturday when he was successful at the Addington trials yesterday.

Game Adios (right) went to the front soon after the start and set a fairly easy pace even allowing for the strong northerly wind. Just when it looked as though he would be passed by Philippa Frost and Lordabie. he came again and won handily by half a length after recording 3min 30.3 s for the 26 f ''m, the last 800 m in Imin 0.35, and the final 400 m in 30.25. Game Adios has not'raced since March, but he has obviously been in solid work for some time and should not be long winning a race. Philippa Frost, in the open for a greater part of the race, came on steadily for second and looked to have a little in reserve. She will be one. of the popular fancies for the Louisson Handicap on Saturday. Lordabie followed Philinna Frost for most of the race. I He battled on gamely for third a head back and could he an improver for Saturday’s $7OOO race. Sunseeker, driven by Bill Ellis, of Sydney, was close up throughout and was two lengths from Lordable at the end. He looks big and bright and is certain to benefit from the race. He will probably resume at the New Brighton

meeting at the end of the month.

day, proved too good for the three-year-olds over 2000 m in 2min 42.45, the last 800 m in Imin 2.45, and the final 400 m in 32.45. Nova Light looks a likely type.

Glen Moira went a fair race for fifth, ahead of Canis Minor and Mack Dougal. both of which look in need of racing. Scotch Tar . made short work of his rivals in the main race for trotters. He took the' lead from Westminster Abbey with 2000 m left and was easing right down with an advantage of three lengths at the line. He took 3min 33.3 s for the 2600 m, the last 800 m in Imin I.Bs. and the last 400 m in 31.85. Scotch Tar will not be set an easy task from 20m in the Christchurch Handicap, but he looks well and should go close to winning.

Blue and Royal, after vying for the lead for most of the way, held second ahead of Winning Double and Majestic Chase. Espiritu made ground for fifth after drifting early. Regal Cheval, which is to resume racing on the second night of the national meeting, led throughout the event for C 4 to C 6 pacers. The pace was an easy one, but Regal Cheval sprinted her last 800 m in Imin 0.45, with her last 400 m in 295. She should not be long showing form. Lord Septemus, aftei being handy 7 throughout, battled on for second, half a length from the winner and a head in front of Dreamy Dragon, which fought on strongly after being in the open for much of the way. Prince Nugent was next, ahead of Sovereign, Reuben James and Orfeo. Hanover James. Bachelor Lord, Sir Ron, Elfin, Tawhai Blue, Cyllarus, False Regal, Double Time and Southern Melody showed to advantage in races for slow-class horses.

Game Captain probably earned favouritism for the Intermediate Handicap on Saturday when he came ifrom well back in the field starting the last 1000 m and finished Second, ahead of Longridge, a candidate for the same race on Saturday. Best Choice was a fair fourth, ahead of Tough Girl, which went much better than she did at last week’s trials.
