Airport petition
A petition calling for the Government to approve the Christchurch Airport runway extensions and restore the portion of landing fees diverted from the City Couricil has so far been signed by 7700 people. Labour’s mayoral candidate for Christchurch, Mrs Mollie Clark, who organised the petition, said yesterday that everything was going well. “I have had letters from the North Island, saying how disgusted people there were about South Island money being used for other airports,” she said.
Mrs Clark will keep the petition open for about three more weeks, before giving it to the Labour member of Parliament for Yaldhurst (Mr M. A. Connelly) for presentation in the House.
