Baby grand for $14000
A- Challen baby grand piano with a mahogany case, whith sold for $l4OO, fetched the highest price at the first day of a two-day auction at Kaiapoi yesterday. More than 360 items were sold.
A Georgian mahogany bureau fetchel $l3OO, and an early Victorian burr walnut side table sold for $ll5O.
Cigarette card albums, collected before World War 11, sold for between $2O and $5O each.
The auctioneer, Mr R. G. Bell, said that bidding at the auction, which was attended by > about 200 people, had been very keen. The sale had included some magnificent items, and was one of the'best he had held.
More than. 300 lots, including paintings, crystal, furniture,. ornaments, and Persian rugs, will be offered today. _____
