WS3O University Vacancies THE UNIVERSITY OF THE SOUTH PACIFIC THE University of the South Pacific on behalf of the Kingdom of Tonga is to establish a rural development centre at Nuku’-alofa during 1980-81. Funds have been provided for this purpose by the EEC. Applications are called for the following positions:

DIRECTOR (Post 80/69) The Director will be chief executive of the Rural Development Centre specifically responsible for: 1 the establishment and administration of the centre. 2 the development of training projects identified by regional governments. 3 the conduct of research In rural development in small areas as health care, communications, production and marketing techniques for rural commodities and rural leadership. ? • 4 the initiation of ; regional consultancy meetings for rural development officials, voluntary organisations and rural research workers. 5 the general welfare of students. ..... ... DEPUTY DIRECTOR (Post 80/70) The appointee shall be responsible to the Director of the centre for: 1 the general administration of the centre including the maintenance of financial and student records and the management of the estates. 2 the conduct of the residential college and the welfare and discipline of students. 3 the development and implementation of courses in the appointees area of special- - isation. 4 assisting the Director in promoting the activities of the centre within the region. The appointee shall be able to demonstrate a record of success in the administration of educational institutions In developing countries. He should possess a sound knowledge of Tongan Language and of the administrative and legal systems of the Kingdom of Tonga. Graduate qualifications in an appropriate area are expected. Salary in accordance with Qualifications and experience in the following range: Director: $F13,257-$F22,339. Deputy Director: $F9183-$F15,606. In addition the University provides gratuity amounting to I's per cent of basic salary, superannuation contribution, appointment allowance, partly furnished accommodation at a maximum rental at present of 12i per cent of salary. Appointment will be for a .contract period of three years and may be renewed by mutual agreement.
