Tomlinson wins bowls
The Canterbury champion of champions indoor bowls singles title was won by the in-form Noel Tomlinson (Hornby W.M.C.) from Ora Bate (Kaiapoi R.S.A.), 13-12, in an engrossing final. Bate, down 2-9 after four ends, fought back to 9-12 down at nine ends. She scored singles on the next three ends to tie the match, at 12-12, on the last end. Tomlinson won the toss on the extra end, and with his last bowl scored the necessary shot to win.
