Fletchers successful abroad
Faced with a continuing downturn in building construction at home, Fletcher Construction Company, Ltd, is competing abroad more strongly than ever. The Australian subsidiary of Fletcher Construction has won a $3.9 million contract to build a prestige, 25-storey home unit tower at Surfers j Paradise. Queensland. The 75m high building, for permanent residents, is the tallest ever undertaken by a Fletcher company. The tower, called “Admiral North,” is being built by the Gold Coast branch off The Fletcher Organisation Ptv Ltd for I.P.C. Pty Ltd. There are two, two-bed-room units per level with two, two-storey penthouse units on top. The facade of the building will be mainly glass clad to provide extensive views of the Broadwater. It also features a swimming pool and sauna. Most of the units had been sold before the start of construction, which is due for completion midway through next year. The company’s Australian subsidiary, The Fletcher Organisation Pty Ltd, also successfully negotiated a major agreement with Hilton International to build Sydney s latest hotel. Construction on the 275 room hotel, with a total project value of $15.8 million, is underway and should be completed by the end of this year. Fletcher is responsible for the design, construction and fitting out of the hotel at Arncliffe, adjacent to the
Sydney International Airport and the well-known The Lakes Golf Club. The 13-storey hotel will include a ballroom, function rooms, restaurants, meeting rooms, bars, a discotheque, squash and tennis courts and carpark space. The Fletcher development and construction package accepted by Hilton followed an airport hotel research tour through Europe last year by the general manager of The’ Fletcher Organisation Pty Ltd, (Mr P. J. Drummond) and the project architects. The hotel will be owned by the AMP Society and operated by the Hilton hotel group. The addition of the Sydney Airport Hotel contract means that Fletcher is currently involved in offshore projects worth more than $6O million and more business is in the pipeline. Fletcher is negotiating with Hilton International to build Brisbane’s first international hotel. The Brisbane Hilton will cost $3O million and have 300 beds. Negotiations should be completed in two months.
