New engines for Taranaki
PA Wellington The Royal. New Zealand Navy frigate Taranaki, which recently put to sea after six months of repairs, will go back to the Navy dockyard late next year to be fitted with new engines. The Cabinet has approved plans to spend $2.9 million on two new Tyne gas turbines for the vessel. The engines will use more than 50 per cent less diesel fuel than the old turbines. Also included in the spending package will be new gearboxes, a machinery control system, and ■ a gunnery fire-control system.-" ■
