A rare stamp

A news item of interest to young collectors appeared in “The Press’’ recently, under the heading, “Priceless stamp.” The stamp,., an 1855 Queen Victoria one shilling green on blue, is one of New Zealand’s rarest; Of the five stamps of this issue known to exist, only two. are in perfect mint condition. One of the two perfect specimens ‘ will be on display at the New Zealand Stamp Exhibition which will be held in Auckland this month, and offered for sale by a London stamp dealer. The other is in tne possession of the Queen in the Royal collection.

The asking price of the stamp will be $28,900 and the London dealer says it is a bargain at that price, because of its rarity. However, I do not think any of you will be able to buy it, nor many other enthusiastic collectors who no doubt would dearly love to own it.
