Having sorted : out the • different types of banks, and ■ then the bank accdunts, in. earlier columns let’s consider whether one bank offers advantages over another. Coming from North America where a more competitive environment had banks wooing even small'fish like me to' bank with them, I was anxious to assess everything before awarding the honour Of my patronage. Unfortunately, all that lovely pizzazz — the free calculators, the balloons, the harpsichord recitals — Just doesn’t operate here. However, some banks do offer different services and advantages depending on your needs. I shall compare the differences between banks’ investment accounts and term deposits in detail at a later date. And also the differences in lending ser-“ vices and conditions. Today, I am laying out general banking services available to and you may choose your bank accordingly, if you wish. Haw did I choose mine? Well ... my local bank manager is a honey, and his second-in-command is equally nice and extremely capable ... and is a woman. I’ll support tliat bank ... for the time being. . >
