Slalom title to Joze Kuralt

PA Wanganui The top Yugoslav competitor, Joze Kuralt, had his first New Zealand win in the international ski federation series which began at the Turoa fields, on Mount Ruapehu, yesterday. The Mount Hutt slalom winner, Hiroaki Ohtaka, of Japan, had the fastest second run in the slalom competition, but finished sixth overall.

Japanese and Yugoslav competitors dominated the men’s events, but Tamara McKinney, of the United States, was fastest in both the women’s slalom runs. Several of her teammates did well in the . first run, but failed to finish the second. She also

won the Mount Hutt slalom last year.

New Zealand’s Fiona Johnson finished eighth in the first run yesterday but failed to finished the second when she became unwell.

Good powder snow and fine weather meant good times for the top competitors on Turoa.
