Little Brown Jug ‘ready to race’
NZPA Melbourne The New Zealand entire Little Brown Jug arrived in Melbourne on Saturday and is “ready to race.” Trainer Peter Jones said the champion four-year-old enjoyed travelling and racing. Little Brown Jug was flown to Sydney and floated overnight to Mornington in a 25-hour round trip, but Jones- said the horse was fit enough to race “tomorrow.” Jones said: “I intend to allow Little Brown Jug to settle in at Mornington
and his first Australian run will be in the Liston Stakes*** The "$NZ29,000 J. J. Liston Stakes (1400 m is run at Sandown on August 25. Little Brown Jug is 8-1 in betting for the Caulfield Cup on October 18 and a 14-1 chance for the Melbourne Cup on November 4.
Little Brown Jug has raced 22 times in New Zealand for 13 wins and six placings. He started this season’s campaign with a first up win at Riccarton.
