Relief funds sought
The United Nations Children’s Organisation will try to treble its reserve fund for relief work in Africa because of the serious effects of the droughts there, according to the chairman of the Christchurch committee of U.N.1.C.E.F., Mrs R. D. A. Baird. It was hoped to boost
the fund to $3 million for aid in Chad, Ethiopa, Uganda, and Somalia, she said. The money would be used to provide food, water, and essential social services. People who wished to help with the fund-raising or who wanted to give to the fund could do so by approaching a member of the committee.
