Hospital changes

PA Wellington Substantial changes to the Geriatric Hospital Special Assistance Scheme to improve the placement of patients, have been announced by the Minister of Health (Mr Gair). The scheme applies to persons aged over 65 seeking admission to a public hospital bed, who are placed in a private

hospital when no longstay public-hospital beds are available. More than 2000 patients are covered by the scheme, which is expected to cost $7,675 million in 1980-81. Mr Gair said that the revised scheme -would emphasise the need for' proper assessment of patients before they were admitted to a long-stay hospital bed.
