Bulb demand limited
A .-fine day and a big rugby match at Lancaster Park were two reasons the “bulbathon” run by the Jaycees was not the success expected, said Mr W. J. Hannam, one of the organisers.
The Jaycees had. hoped to sell .100,000 bulbs in Christchurch yesterday as part of their national “Light up a-Life” campaign to raise $500,000 for the South Pacific Children’s Aid Trust. By 6 p.m. the total was $6OOO for
the day and $lB,OOO for the week. “It was such a nice day that many prospective buyers were out of. town,” said Mr Hannam. “We did receive a few orders for 50 bulbs which helped the total along." - ; Jaycee members will distribute the bulbs in Christchurch this week. People who were unable to telephone yesterday have until the end of the week to get in touch with their local Jaycee chapter for orders.
