Noon Forecast

General forecast: Fine weather is expected to continue over most of the North Island but north-west-erly winds should freshen over the southern half, with increasing cloud in the west. Over the South Island, north-westerlies are expected to be strong in many places, with cloudy skies. Rain ■ in Fiordland should spread into Westland and Southland , by evening; it is expected to be mild in areas east of the ranges in the afternoon, but will remain cool elsewhere. District forecasts:

Canterbury: North-easterlies slowly freshening about the coast, north-westerlies gradually predominating inland; fine; and cool, with frosts tonight.
