Kingston Town ‘starting’
NZPA Melbourne Reports published in Sydney concerning Kingston Town not running in this year’s $310,000 ($NZ365,000) Melbourne Cup are false, according to the horse’s senior part-owner, Mr David Hains. Mr Hains said earlier this week that at this stage Kingston Town is still being set for the race and that anything to the contrary js totally wrong. “No matter what decision is made we won’t be pushed by public opinion. We want anyone thinking of backing him to understand that they are taking a risk as to whether he will actually run,” Mr Hains said. “Punters should realise that the race is still a long way off and many things can happen before then. “If all goes well we would like to see him tackle just one handicap race before the Melbourne Cup.” Mr Hains said that race would be the Cox Plate but ihe did not rule out the possibility that the horse would run in the rich Caulfield Cup. “It would depend on many things including whether the Caulfield Cup field fell away and also if the track is dry,” Kir Hains said.
