Gabriel Post, aged 29, a carpenter, of Simons Street, Twizel. He was married, with two children.
Sergeant G. GJ Cleland said Mr Post had been hunting rabbits when he had apparently tripped, shooting , himself with his 22 rifle. The other man died after
accidentally shooting himself in the head while hunting in the Rotoiti forest, about 60km east of Rotorua, according to the police. He was Graeme David Sergeant, aged 26, of Brown Street, Kawerau.
The police said that Mr Sergeant had been walking with two companions when he had tried to climb a bank and his .303 rifle had discharged. The seriously wounded man was shot ,in the chest ,at close range when a ■ faulty .22 rifle discharged, according-to the police.
