Canty loses bowls trophy
The Canterbury Indoor bowls team lost the A. S. Paterson Trophy to Otago in a close con : test at the .Kearneys ’Road halj at the week-end. Otago won 50-46. Otago gained a four-point advantage from the first-round pairs, but the . margin was reduced to two after the opening series of singles. Otago maintained this narrow lead until the second-round ■ singles when it lifted its advantage to four points. Only the final two fours remained to be played. Both fours were closely contested.- Alf Williamson gave Canterbury one win, but then Keith Becker was overhauled by Otago’s Stuart Webster. Becker led 8-4 after four ends, but Webster recovered to level the scores on the seventh end. He scored .'three on the eighth to seal Canterbury’s fate.
