J. J. BOYLE
By
The Riccarton trainer Peter Jones, flew out of Christchurch for Australia with Little Brown Jug and Athos yesterday carrying the best wishes of some knowledgeable racing men.
Jones has Little Brown Jug entered for the big
spring cups in Melbourne, and he had words of encouragement yesterday from Clarrie McCarthy, who prepared Dalre.y to win the Melbourne Cup in 1952. Another well-wisher was Arthur E. Didhain, the veteran Wingatui trainer whose colour-bearer Igloo, was placed in both the
Caulfield and Melbourne Cups. The stretched DCS which took Little Brown Jug to Sydney yesterday, p.lso came under inspection from Mr David Mac Nab, part-owner and trainer of the Grand National Steeples winner Thumbs Orf.
Mr Mac Nab h?.s been invited to take his jumping star to the United States for the famous Colonial Cup ’chase, and he was anxious yesterday to see what kind of transport is available these days for horses making long trips.
