Cycling gold to host team
N Z P A-Reuter Moscow The Soviet Union took the gold medal in the Olympic 100-kilbmetre cycling team trial for the third time running on Sunday, defeating world champions East Germany by more than 90 seconds on the Moscow-Minsk highway course. . The Soviet squad of Yun Kashirin, Oleg Logvin, Sergei Shelpakov, and late replacement Anatoly Yarkin
clocked two hours one minute 21.74 seconds. The East Germans, who smashed all opposition by more than two piinutes at the world championships a year ago, only just won the silver medal. Czechoslovakia staged a brilliant final quarter, and lost second place by only seven-tenths of a second. The East Germans were timed at 2:02:53.19, and the Czechoslovaks in 2:02:53.89.
