Marlborough fleece wins section

A Halfbred ewe hogget fleece entered by Mrs A. M. Pattie, of Glencairn, Seddon, won the Halfbred and Corriedale fleece section in the Massey Wool Association’s fleece of the year competition. The results of the competition were announced at the annual conference of the association in Auckland last week.

The wool manager of Dalgety New Zealand, Ltd, in Christchurch, Mr K. M. Collins, described it as an outstanding fleece showing particularly good character

and style for the breed and of a very soft-handling wool type. The over-all champion fleece in the competition was a Merino one entered by B. J. Paterson, of Cromwell, which also headed the Merino section. The crossbred section was won by the Ben Braggie Stud, Southland; the crossbred hogget section by G. Crump, of Waitahuna, Otago; and the crossbred woolly hogget section by M. J. and J. Ladbrook, of Gore.
