Taihape for big race
NZPA Sydney Taihape will be set for the $120,000 A.J.C. Metropolitan (2600 m at Randwick on October 6, after his win in the S.T.C. Winter ' Cup (2400 m at Rosehill on Saturday. ■ The plain-looking horse gave a courageous display to score a neck-victory over Alvaro Boy after, being headed in the straight. Taihape broke the race record, running the journey in 2min 28.65, an exceptional time on a good track for this time of the year. Taihape’s time was 1.9 s faster than the record.established by Clear Day in July, 1977 and was only 0.9 s short of the course record set by the brilliant New Zealand horse Shivaree.
