Shipping News Lyttelton-dearest for containers

Two papers presented at the recent Exports and Shipping Council forum in Wellington conflict about what it costs to aandle refrigerated containers at New Zealand’s four container ports, but both agreed that the cost at Lyttelton is the highest. Mr A. M. Begg, chairman of the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, claimed that the cost ter refrigerated container at Lyttelton was $454, compared with $406 at Port Chalmers, $342 it Auckland, and $333 at Weiington. However, Mr R. C. Whyte, general manager of Blueport A.C.T., laid in his paper that the cost ter container at Lyttelton was inly 5333, compared with $3lB it Port Chalmers, $247 at Auckand, and $239 at Wellington.
