New fishery move
PA Whangarei A potential new: fishery which could open the door to huge exports of octopus to Japan is being investigated by a Whangarei fishing company. / Port Fisheries, Ltd, is investigating the potential for octopus fishing off New Zealand, A director, Mr J.
Sherley, told a seminar .of fishermen in Whangarei.. that the potential market-for octopus was enormous.. He said the Japanese consumed about 160,000 tonnes a year.
His .Company had entered into an agreement . with a Japanese company to investigate the potential octopus fishery in New Zealand.
