Tribute paid to Mr Schroder

PA Wellington The former Director of Broadcasting, Mr J. H. E. Schroder, who died in Hamilton on Tuesday, was a remarkable man in the true sense of the word, said the chairman of the Broadcasting Corporation (Mr lan Cross) yesterday. Mr Schroder was a distinguished educationist, journalist, and grammarian, and a broadcasting administrator of great ability, Mr Cross said.’

“He was appointed as an assistant director of the N.Z.B.S. in 1949 when radio services were expanding rapidly,” said Mr Cross. “When he retired at the end of 1961, television had just started and the organisation was about to become a corporation. “Public broadcasting of today was therefore shaped in his time. We remember him with respect and some awe for. his precise and perceptive administration and with fondness for him as a man.”
