Hospital fire
PA Auckland About 50 patients were speedily moved from two wards as fire broke out at Middlemore Hospital last evening. Nurses moved all patients from the two plastic surgery wards within minutes of alarm bells sounding, and no-one was . hurt in the drama. Patients were wheeled out in their beds, some of them with seripus injuries. Intravenous drip and other apparatus was taken with the beds. The fire broke out about 5.45 p.m. in ceiling joists between the sluice rooms of wards one and-siin-directly above each other. . .. It was quickly brought under control, but firemen stood by at the hospital through the night in case of more outbreaks.
