Brigade centenary
The Boys’ Brigade, the oldest uniformed organisation in the world for boys, is busy planning for its centenary in 1983. As well as celebrations throughout New Zealand, opening with an international camp in Waikato in January, 1983, many activities will be held abroad, including in Glasgow, the brigade’s birthplace. Next month, a party of New Zealand brigaders will join others from Pa-
cific countries in a volunteer service project in Tonga. This will entail the repainting of Tupou College, a boys’ boarding school with a roll of 700. The Wellington Rotary Club will assist in this project. The brigade is also considering introducing a group catering for youngsters aged six to eight. The Telethon Trust has provided a substantial grant to enable this age grouping to be established.
