Four-minute lift to the top of Bob’s Peak
. No visit to Queenstown is complete without the breath-taking ride in the gondola lift- to the Skyline Chalet at the top of Bob’s Peak.
Rising 1460 ft at 10ft a second, the gondolas can carry 300 people an hour to the summit from where magnificent views can be obtained of Queenstown
with the Remarkables and Lake Wakatipu as a backdrop. Since its opening in 1967, the lift has carried more than 1.5-- million people. The annual, figure is steadily increasing and last year alone, some 170,000 passengers rode in the gondolas. From August 1 the charge for adults will be $350 (now- $2.50) for the return journey. The charge for children aged between 6 and 12 is (and will remain at) $l. Children under six are carried free. The gondolas seat four and leave on demand from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The Skyline Chalet on the summit incorporates a souvenir shop, snack bar, and fully licensed restaurant with seating for 350 diners. . ,■ ; - eThe restaurant is particularly popular at night and reservations are essential. The gondola lift is available to diners from 6.30 p.m. until’the restaurant closes. An a la carte menu is offered on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sturdays, but on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays a threecourse buffet meal . is available .with entertainment and gondola transportation for only $9A la carte lunches are served daily, except Mondays, between midday and 2 p.m.
