Smuggling charges admitted
BA. .Auckland I An. - ‘ Auckland company director. who smuggled goods valued at $24,200 into New Zealand gave false names to airport-officials, the District Court at Auckland heard yesterday; ' Before Judge J, R. He had earlier admjtted two other offences .■ of smuggling electrical gear;},valued at $5OOO. Miss T. M. Spain, for .the Customs Department,. said that between March 31 and April 18, Ilich made several trips to New Zealand from Australia. On each occasion he purported to be a visitor, and used a different name when completing arrival cards and declaration forms. Revenue evaded was $6846. Goods recovered included three video-cassette. recorders, two 3-in-l colour television sets, an amplifier, and a black and white 3-in-l television. '■
Ilich, who is serving a prison term for other offences, was convicted and remanded to July 21 for sentencing.
