‘Exploitation of young possible’
FA Wellington Young people might be widely exploited by weekend shop trading, according to a Labour Youth Council spokesman. The council's president (Mr Grant Andrews) said week-end trading might look attractive to young workers, since it. would allow more time for shopping.
“However. Labour PartyYouth fea that it maylead to thousands of young people working in shops for inadequate wages and in unsatisfactory conditions." Mr .Andrews said. It was likely that if Saturday- shopping became common shop workers would be predominantly young, under-paid, and employed on a casual basis.' with no long-term prospects, he said.
