'Press’ trophy to University B
The University B team has won “The Press” contest for the best and fairest side in the senior rugby competition. It becomes the second side to take the trophy, which was provided bv the Christchurch Press Company, Ltd, last year to mark the centennial of the Canterbury Rugby Union. The first I winner was Lincoln College. | Although its playing record was gloomy. University B adopted a bold approach and I won widespread praise for the
spirit in which it played, and for its adhe rance to the rules. The side won the 15-round contest by eight points from Marist, with Lincoln College and Old Boys equal third. Points were awarded by referees each week for sportsmanship and constructiveness.
Final positions were:— University B 264. Marist 256. Old Boys and Lincoln College 248. New Brighton 246. University A 240. Belfast 237. MerivalePapanui and Christchurch 231. Albion 229. Linwood and Hornby
