No offers for Mr Matteucci
PA Auckland The conductor of the Symphonia Of Auckland for the last 11 years, Jaun Matteucci, has said he has not yet been included in plans to form a new regional orchestra. The Symphonia foundation committee will recommend to a general meeting today that the Symphonia go into voluntary liquidation and that the Auckland Regional Orchestra be set up as soon as possible. The chairman of the Queen Elizabeth 11 Arts Courted (Mr Hamish Keith) said last evening that the council had paid the orchestra’s wages w'hich had been outstanding for a fortnight. The council was not in-
volved in immediately funding a similar orchestra. “We could not continue in this curious situation where Auckland had an orchestra which Auckland local bodies refused to have anything to do with,” he said. Until the July 14 meeting a question mark hangs over the future of Mr Matteucci. aged 60. the Italian-born Cnilean conductor Who took up a contract in 1964 with the Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra and liked New Zealand so "much that he stayed. , , , , He said that although he had heard of plans to form a new orchestra, he had not been asked by players to take the baton.
