No accord

A ratepayers’ meeting in Kaikoura on Saturday discussed at length the possibility of forcing a poll to prevent the raising of a second loan for the borough’s $1.3 million sewerage scheme, but failed to find a common voice.

The meeting was initiated by the South Bay Ratepayers-' Association whose members were concerned about the big sum of money the borough would be committed to by the loan. It was, however, a general gathering of Kaikoura residents to discuss the issues.

A great deal of discussion took place but there was no degree of unanimity and no resolutions were made.

For a poll to be forced, 15 per cent of ratepayers must object to the loan.
