Hurdle races spectacular fare
By 808 SCHUMACHER There were only two runners in each race but the hurdle events at the Christchurch Greyhound Racing Club’s sweepstake Sng at Queen Elizabeth II Park on Saturday afternoon prodded spectacular fare. Duelling ’ Gay and Emma’s r.nid had their second clash this a-inter and the score stands at one all after Duelling Gay prevailed on Saturday. Both jumped ■plendidly but Duelling Gay, which led throughout, pulled ■way in the home straight to win by six lengths. The time for the winner was faster than Lady ffadderin’s in the tighter assesied event. Lady Waddenn, jumping economically, led Charlie Havic from the start but only two lengths! tenarated them after they hail cleared the double along tie hack straight. Charlie Havic lot
ground a! the second to last fence and Lady Wadderin gained her winring break. She cleared the last hurdle with an advantage of six lengths but Charlie Havic was rapidly closing at the finish. Reject’s Charm, one of the most impressive chasers during the recent sweepstake meetings, led Jbme a useful field in the 590m' race for classes 3 and 4 lonjcails. Reject’s Charm, Fergie Mac, ant Coastal Revs were abreast at th< first turn but Reject’s Charm, ailed by the inside running, slipped clear down the back sraight and had a handy lead timing for home. He stayed m well to beat Kilty Hobbs, Which swept around the field on the home turn and battled on gallantly. Lantern Lad (Top Club—Dancing Wave) confirmed an outstanding win at the last meeting by’
stylishly winning the class 1 event over 590 m. The big fawn dog left the traps with the field this time and went to the lead down the back straight. He won by a wide margin and is a dog of considerable potential.
