PA Wellington The annual depositions of radioactive strontium 90 monitored in New Zealand and the South Pacific last year were the lowest since recordings began in 1960.
This was revealed in the National Radiation Laboratory’s annual environmental radioactivity report, released yesterday by the Minister of Health, (Mr Gair).
"I am pleased to be able to say that no fresh fission productions, from possible venting of underground nuclear tests, have been detected since this programme began,” Mr Gair said.
