However, the weather should be mainly fine in the west and north of. the South Island. , Canterbury: Southerlies becoming strong about coast. Very cold with wintry showers becoming frequent. Buller, Westland: Southerly winds, fresh at times. Fine, apart from a few showers about the ranges
with snow to low levels. Cold. Marlborough: South-west-erlies fresh or strong about the coast but with winds lighter inland. Cold with showers but long fine intervals inland with frosts. Nelson: Isolated showers but considerable fine periods. Southerlies . fresh in exposed places. Cold with frosts in sheltered areas.
Outlook: Fine in Buller, Westland and Nelson; cold and showery in Canterbury; coastal showers in Marlborough — otherwise fine.
